Last week we announced the release of a FREE update for all SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis games on Steam to be housed in a cool 1990’s style bedroom Hub - which is OUT NOW for Windows PCs.
We wanted to take this opportunity to address some of the questions that have come up regarding the implementation of Steam Workshop amongst other things.
First off, there was some confusion over the name - announced as ‘SEGA Mega Drive Classics Hub’ - and that it might only release in Europe. Well to avoid any misinformation (and to be inclusive of international differences!) we’ve renamed it “SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics Hub” and are happy to confirm it will be available on Steam globally*.
There were comments on social media regarding how to access the hub if fans already owned Mega Drive & Genesis games on Steam. Well, rest assured, you will not have to repurchase the games. For any qualifying titles already in your Steam library you will automatically have access to the hub and all the new features via the FREE update.
For anyone not already owning any of the qualifying titles then simply purchasing any one game will also grant access to the Hub. The SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics are currently only available for Windows and this weekend on Steam will all be available at a 66% discount to celebrate the launch of the new hub.
Lastly, regarding Steam Workshop support; we are not releasing any modding tools with this update. The Steam Workshop functionality is a platform to share the wealth of custom Mega Drive & Genesis ROMs out there and support the highly talented and engaged community of modders behind them. Now content creators can easily share their custom ROMs with other Mega Drive & Genesis fans giving a new perspective on so many beloved retro titles.
We hope that clears up any confusion surrounding last week’s announcement but should you have any further questions feel free to get in touch on Facebook or Twitter and we’ll endeavour to answer your questions as soon as possible.
